Plaid Free

Plaid offers free Sandbox testing, but Sandbox access is not unlimited free production use. A financial integration must distinguish simulated testing from access to real accounts, and it must verify the terms for the products and region it uses.
What is free in Sandbox?
Plaid’s Sandbox documentation describes a test environment. Use it to exercise application behavior without treating test responses as evidence about a real applicant.
The billing documentation states that Sandbox usage is free and production pricing depends on the product. Trial access and contracted terms must be checked for the actual account; free access is not a universal promise covering every product and environment.
Production pricing is a separate question
The US and Canada pricing page describes product-dependent pricing models. Do not infer that a free endpoint makes every associated product free, or that a trial allows unrestricted ongoing use.
List the products enabled, the event that creates a charge and any ongoing or repeated-use charges. Check region and contract conditions before estimating cost. A feature added during a test can have a different cost consequence after production access is enabled.
Estimate from the workflow
Map applicant connections, refreshes, retries and abandoned applications. Separate an initial lookup from recurring data access. Use realistic test cases to learn how the integration calls endpoints rather than assume every application causes exactly one billable event.
Keep the estimate tied to an application identifier and a documented usage assumption. Measure actual calls in a controlled trial so unexpected repeated requests can be investigated.
Know what Sandbox cannot prove
A simulated environment can show whether your application handles a response or failure. It does not prove live institution coverage, applicant behavior, latency or suitability for every account.
Before release, verify access, consent flow, error handling, credentials and billing under the permitted production process. For the broader role of the service, see what Plaid does.
